Richard Armstrong GG

Armstrong Gemology does not buy, sell or broker jewelry, diamonds, gemstones, watches or precious metals. Does not accept commission payments for referals or "finder's fees" and charges for jewelry appraisal are of the highest ethical standard and are therefore not based on the value of your jewels.
Additionally, Armstrong Gemmology is not owned by any other jewelry trade or insurance related body.

This appraisal practice handles, with pleasure, all items that are likely to be be found in a personal jewelry collection, but it should be noted that Richard is considered an expert in very unusual and rare gemstones and assignments are also invited from gem collectors, educational institutes and museums.

Richard D Armstrong, RGA GG GP

Richard has had a passion for gems and jewelry for over 50 years. Originally teaching himself to do lapidary work (gemstone cutting) at the age of 14 he progressed until sufficiently proficient to work as a lapidary instructor in Thailand and having two articles published in the Lapidary Journal.

Fifty years of working with gems gave him a good understanding of gemology and with it, the ability to identify and grade gemstones and diamonds, an ability that was tested by the Gemological Institute of America which resulted in the gemological qualification, Graduate Gemologist.
Richard is a contributor to Gem Tools Pro (a gem identification software tool and gemstone data resource) and is the publisher of the ′Photoatlas of Gemstone Spectra for Gemology Students′.

Past Relevant Experience

Richard believes that his experience as a CPA and an Auditor give him skills in research, analysis and investigation that few appraisers can match. His business education and experience provides him with the understanding of the legal and contractual requirements of the insurance industry and the requirements of the IRS for appraising personal property for tax purposes. He has also served as treasurer for three 501.c(3) organizations at the same time from 2004 through 2009. Additionally he has taught business law, economics and tax, so fully understands these aspects of the jewelry industry. Richard also worked for the US Army Audit Agency as a Senior Auditor for 16 years.
